Played 2 rounds here, played decent, not a golf architect buff but I have several thoughts. Property is gigantic, course itself is wide open for the most part. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Transfusions at the halfway house b/t 7 and 8 are the bomb! I walked both days b/c of recent rain, which seems to be a theme in the reviews. It's almost 10 miles to walk, very hilly, but I walk 90% of my rounds and enjoyed it for the most part. Hopefully they improve the layout to be push cart friendly, lots of spots where you're going through knee high grass ans uneven ground with a push cart. Fairways are wide open, but bring (at least) your B game off the tee, lots of forced carries off the tee. Greens are very tricked out, they saw how popular Tobacco Road is and dialed it up 5x. Green speed is more reasonable than TR given the undulations, but still a few spots where you are absolutely boned. Tough course if you're out of position. Off the fairway is a no go short, left, and right; knee high grass everywhere. Tall and thick grass around the front side of most every bunker, and the soft sand can lead to some wicked fried eggs. Not sure if I loved the course, still digesting it but glad I played it. It's a bit repetitive with bunkers in approach landing zones, several center-line hazards, lots of elevated tee shots (which I think are cool). I will say it has a few carryable bunkers off the tee which I really like from risk/reward perspective.
"The hills are alive with the sound of golf..." If anyone knows that old song that I just ripped off... then at least you can appreciate the reference. If you love golf, when you are moving through the hills of Landmand...you just might want to break out in song....it's that inspiring....AND....that different. I've played several other sand hills courses...but NOTHING...and I mean NOTHING....has the land movement of Landmand. It is absolutely unique, and exhilarating. It's fun. It's quirky. But it's still very good and challenging golf. You will NEVER forget a round at Landmand...that's a promise! One other thing. There was a misunderstanding at the beginning of the morning. But Justin "JB" stepped in and went above and beyond to make things right. That's outstanding service and I think you'll find that to be the norm. Find the time and go. It's worth the trip, whatever you have to do to make it.
